sillynut.com, Linda Christiansen
Linda Christiansen, the founder of sillynut.com, was an entrepreneur back in 2001 when she founded DelcoTechs.com to provide PC and networking solutions, training, and tech support to small businesses and home users in Delaware County and the surrounding areas. This business is ongoing and today she has over200 customers. But her true passion is sillynut.com. She formed sillynut.com in 2004 as an Art Club for children. More recently, Christiansen has focused sillynut.com on helping adults with intellectual disabilities and autism.
At sillynut.com, Christiansen focuses on teaching art and computer classes at various service provider locations in the area and has recently acquired a space in the community to offer these classes.
SCORE mentor Jim Calgiano brings a friend each week who has been challenged due to an automobile accident. Calgiano is so impressed with Christiansen’s enthusiasm and spirit that he is advising her on how to grow her business. Sillynut.com provides all of the materials and recently has obtained space at the First United Methodist Church in Media for her workshops. She charges $10 per person for the 2-hour workshop. She limits the class size to a maximum of 20 people and plans to offer multiple workshops at different locations throughout the area. In addition to helping intellectually disabled adults, many able-bodied retired adults are coming to the workshops to aid in helping others. This sense of community is becoming infectious and offers retired adults an opportunity to share their experiences and personal compassion.
